Feed, Seed and Treated Timber Inspector II
SALARY: $34,644.00

The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Plant Industries Division, Bureau of Feed, Seed & Treated Timber, has a full-time position located in East/Southeast Missouri area. The incumbent must reside in Washington County or surrounding counties. Applicants in other areas considered if willing to relocate.
Job Description:
The incumbent in this position inspects commercial feed, seed and treated timber distributors for compliance with the Missouri Feed, Seed and Treated Timber statutes. Substantial effort is also directed to the collection and submission of representative feed, seed and treated timber samples from businesses for testing and analysis. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Manager and is primarily reviewed through submission of activity and inspection reports and periodic on-site review; however, the employee exercises independence and initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities within established guidelines.
This position is responsible for various duties which include, but are not limited to: Obtains feed, seed and treated timber samples in accordance with standards established by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC), Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA), American Wood Preserver’s Association (AWPA) and the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
- Inspects feed, seed and treated timber establishments for licensure and compliance with Missouri and FDA statutory provisions governing product manufacture, labeling and distribution.
- Advises feed manufacturers of required labeling standards; inspects feeds for proper labeling; obtains feed samples and statements of nutritional content for laboratory analysis.
- Issues withdrawal-from-distribution and stop-sale orders on products which are not in compliance with labeling and registration requirements; ensures timely compliance with imposed enforcement actions.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications:
One year of experience in one or more of the areas described below; and preferred graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business or public administration, biological sciences or closely related areas. (Experience in the following areas may be substituted for deficiencies in the required education.)
- Professional or technical experience in the feed, seed or agricultural industry which affords knowledge of the manufacture, sale and distribution of commercial feed, seed, and/or treated timber products.
- Experience as a Feed and Seed Inspector with an official state agency.
Necessary Special requirements:
Must be able to obtain FDA credentials, reside in assigned area, have ability to lift 50 pounds, and must possess or obtain a valid Missouri drivers license in accordance with Department of Agriculture standards and timeframes.
