Veterinary Epidemiologist

ANNUAL SALARY: $71,544.00
Full-time, benefited position

The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Health, has a full-time position located in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Job Description:
The individual would direct the statewide epidemiological investigations related to livestock and poultry diseases in the event of a disease outbreak. The veterinarian may be responsible for supervision and providing direction to the animal health diagnostic laboratories. The individual would be responsible for ensuring disease traces were fully investigated to protect the health status of our state. The individual would apply animal health statues and regulations relating to livestock disease identification, control, and/or eradication. This position would monitor the emergence of disease throughout the state and recommend revisions to state regulations and division polices, as needed. The veterinarian would be responsible for submitted epidemiological reports to summarize the investigations and provide information when requested. This position also acts as a liaison to state and federal epidemiologists to ensure the Missouri’s animal health programs are in compliance with established national standards. General supervision is provided by the State Veterinarian or other designated superior; however, the employee exercised considerable independence and initiative in the performance of assigned duties and performs other related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Four or more years of experience as a veterinarian involving the care and treatment of large animals and/or a livestock market Veterinarian, including two or more years of experience in epidemiological investigations and reporting; and graduation from an accredited school of veterinary medicine.

Necessary Special requirements:
Must obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Missouri and must obtain federal accreditation to perform animal health regulatory work within timeframes established by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
